increase control of risks across your supply chain

WHAT IS A DURING PRODUCTION INSPECTION (DUPRO)?

During Production Inspection (DURPO or DPI), sometimes referred to as Inline Product Inspection (IPI) or During Production Check, usually occurs when between 10 to 60% of your product is manufactured and packing for export has begun. It forms part of your overall quality assurance program and allows you to take corrective action against defects at an early stage.

WHY DO YOU NEED A DURING PRODUCTION INSPECTION?

Conducting a during-production inspection is vital for maintaining control over the manufacturing process. It allows for early detection of potential quality issues, material inconsistencies, or deviations from the product specifications.

This proactive measure saves time and resources by addressing problems before the entire batch is produced. It also helps keep the production schedule on track and assures that the final product will meet your quality requirements and customer expectations.

Key Benefits of a DUPRO Inspection:

  • Monitor the production speed and check if your specifications are being followed
  • Identify non-conformities at an early stage and avoid costly corrections
  • Assure consistency in product quality and secure final product delivery
  • Enhance supplier management and bring transparency to your supply chain
  • Improve customer satisfaction and strengthen your brand reputation

WHEN SHOULD YOU SCHEDULE A DUPRO OR INLINE INSPECTION?

A during production inspection is most effective when conducted after 20 to 60% of the manufacturing process is complete. This timing allows for a meaningful assessment of both the quality of the first products and the production processes in place. It's early enough to make adjustments without significant disruption or cost, yet far enough into production to get an accurate representation of the batch quality.

A DUPRO or inline inspection is often helpful for larger quantity shipments, strict requirements for on-time shipments, and as a follow-up to a Pre-Production Inspection.

You should schedule a DUPRO inspection if:

  • You’re struggling to manage product quality and meet shipping deadlines with the final inspection alone
  • You’ve discovered quality defects in the final inspection that were introduced during earlier production stages
  • You’re manufacturing a relatively complicated product that requires many different components and production processes

WHAT IS THE GENERAL PROCESS OF A DUPRO INSPECTION?

The general process of a DUPRO production inspection includes:

  • Planning: The importer, manufacturer, and third-party inspection company devise and agree upon the inspection scope and criteria.
  • Random Sampling: The inspector selects a random sample of units from the production line for detailed evaluation using the statistical sampling procedure ISO 2859-1 (ANSI/ASQ Z1.4).
  • Quality Assessment: The selected units are inspected for conformity with specifications, including dimensions, colors, materials, workmanship, and more.
  • Process Review: The inspector assesses the production processes and environment for potential issues that could affect product quality.
  • Reporting: The inspector creates a detailed inspection report with findings, recommendations, and photographs.
  • Corrective Actions: The manufacturer implements any necessary corrective actions if issues are identified.

WHAT CRITERIA ARE COVERED IN A DUPRO INSPECTION?

A DUPRO  inspection typically covers a wide range of criteria to ensure comprehensive quality control:

  • Product Specifications: Verifying that the products match the agreed-upon specifications in design, size, color, and material.
  • Workmanship Quality: Assessing the quality of the craftsmanship, including stitching, assembly, and finish.
  • Consistency: Checking for consistency in the production process to ensure all units meet the same quality standards.
  • Product Functionality: Testing the functionality of the products to confirm they operate as intended.
  • Packaging and Labeling: Evaluating the packaging and labeling for accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Production Schedule: Reviewing the production timeline and processes to ensure the project is on track.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensuring the products adhere to relevant safety standards and regulatory requirements.
